Old Hill Cemetery Ghost Hunt

 So this was the first time I got to use my ghost hunting kit. I didn't know what exactly to do with it or how to use it so I fumbled my way through it. I was super excited to try out the kit and the night vision on my camera. The camera was a bit of a let down but it worked well enough for the situation. I tried to capture the best quality I could with tools that I had. 

As far as the ghost hunt goes we spent around 20 minutes at the cemetery looking for evidence. We did get some EMF spikes in different places but didn't capture any EVPs. In the video we could distinctly hear an unexplained bump that we didn't hear when we were actually at the cemetery. It was kinda cool to capture that. I dropped the cat balls onto the ground and asked any spirits to touch the ball and it would light up. Unfortunately we didn't get any spirit to play with the balls. I was thinking that it could have been all the leaves on the ground spotting that from happening. 

All in all I think it was a nice ghost hunt for the first time trying out the new gear. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that there was a house right beside the cemetery. The people that live in the house pretty much live in the cemetery, that's how close it was. They came out on the porch once and starred right at us. It was kinda weird that they did that. We tried our hardest to be respectful and not disturb anyone around.

We Visit A Haunted Mental Hospital

The Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum also known as the Weston State Hospital is the second largest hand cut stone building in the world. Originally built in 1858 it was to house 250 patients the population eventually ballooned to over 2,400 patients.The building is said to now be haunted by the spirits of those who passed away inside it’s gothic walls. TAPS or Ghost Hunters as well as Ghost Adventures and other paranormal organizations have hunted inside the hospital with varying results but one thing is for sure, evidence has always been caught. 

Some of the stories that have unfolded from this building are uneasy or haunting themselves. Lily born to a patient named Gladys died of pneumonia at age 9. She can be heard laughing and playing and even rolling balls across the floor. 

Two young teen boys can be heard hanging out around a restroom area in the hospital. It’s said they enjoy receiving gifts of mints, gum, and cigarettes. It’s said if you leave them a gift they will communicate with you. 

There have been many sightings of shadow creatures roaming the hospital in the halls and stairwells and other hauntings throughout the building. These hauntings come from death, severe treatments such as ice baths and lobotomies and neglect. 

One story that remains a big local legend is two patients were trying to hang another patient in their room and got into an argument. After a few moments the argument became physical. The altercation took place and one patient landed on the floor. The other patient still standing took a bed frame and placed the leg of the bed on the other mans temple and crushed his head using the leg of the bed. 

While stories like this are talked about often the TB wing has had its fair share of death also. That is where the Halloween haunted house takes place every year. 

Of course we can’t take the camera into the attraction but we will tell you all about it in a few moments. 

Got My Gear

 So a few days ago I said I was expecting some new gear to improve my YouTube Channel Raininthecity1. Well, it all came in and I am super stoked to use it. The camera is amazing for $25. It cannot be beat for that price. Even the $4 SD card reader works great. I know I’m gonna use this stuff this weekend. Not sure if I’ll use the ghost hunting tools this weekend but definitely the camera. 

A friend of ours named JoJo wants us to bring the ghost hunting equipment to her house and see if she’s haunted. She seems to think that there is something there. I’m not sure when we will be doing that but soon. I told my boss about Jojo wanting us to come over and she said, “Come do my house too.” It’s exciting to have people wanting us to come check their homes. 

So the ghost hunting kit has an EVP recorder, spirit box, cat balls, flashlight and an emf reader. 

                                 

As for the camera all I wanted was night vision and it has that. But there is so much more on that camera than night vision. It’s quite the little camera for what I paid for it. Plus, it came with an SD card, two batteries, a charging cable and an external mic. I really don’t think you can beat that. Even the picture quality is great. It says 4K and I believe it. 

 

If you[re looking for a great affordable camera I’d check out Amazon for sure. I was gonna leave a link for this one, but I think I bought the last one. Of course there are plenty of others cameras on Amazon that are affordable and have all the features. I looked at a few others myself. 

  

I’m Upgrading My Equipment

 

So I went out today looking for a camcorder with a mic mounted on top of it. We stopped by Walmart today for some grocery shopping and I decided to check there and see what they had. Of course they had some cameras but nothing that I cold affords or want. For starters I hate Walmart and secondly they never have what I’m looking for. All I wanted was an affordable camcorder with an external mic. I was ready to spend around $100 on this item. I did find one on the website but didn’t order from there. 

It seems like Walmart has a ton of stuff on their website but nothing in the store. I left Walmart $100 poorer but with groceries. I come home and decide to check on Amazon for the item I want. It took me a few tries and a few “Next Page” clicks But I found a camera that met my needs. It is Qorzen brand camera and I’ve never heard of that brand before  It records 4K footage, has an external mic and also has night vision  All that seems pretty nice but the price was incredible  I paid $25 for this camera  It even includes the SD cards and two batteries  

Of course I’m gonna be excited to try it out so I’ll be doing that on Tuesday when it get’s here. I can’t wait until Friday when I make a new video. It’s gonna be awesome. Now, with buying a new camera that takes SD cards I am gonna need an SD card reader. So back to the ole amazon website I went and searched for SD card readers and found one for just $4. That is a very cheap price and I hope it works. Of course Amazon has a generous thirty day return policy. So if anything doesn’t work I can easily return it for a refund. Buying both the camera and the card reader I only spent $30. But it’s gonna be epic when I get to use this stuff. 

Since I’m letting the cat outta the bag I will also tell you that I purchased a professional ghost hunting kit. It’s supposed to be here tomorrow which is Sunday October 18th. Nikki seems to want to go to a haunted location and use the ghost hunting gear in the dark. Now that I have a night vision camera I can do that.

They Loaded 80 Families in this Fort, Now it's Haunted

Pricketts Fort was built to defend early European settlers from hostile Native Americans. After a band of settlers led by Daniel Greathouse perpetrated the Yellow Creek Massacre in 1774 all settlers in the Ohio River Vally where at risk of an attack from the native Americans. Because there was safety in numbers the settlers built a number of forts including one on the land of Jacob Prickett. There were upwards of 80 families or several 100 people that would gather at Pricketts Fort during crisis times and they would stay there for days or even weeks. Pricketts Fort was never attacked although some men were killed by native Americans in the area. 

Paranormal experts and ghost hunting groups point to the the 1774 stockade, log cabins, and surrounding 1858 Prickett House as a site for disembodied voices and unexplained sensations. 

There have been reports of people feeling like they are being watched or that someone is standing right behind them. People turn to see who is behind or beside them only to find no one is there. The have also been reports of cold spots while walking through the fort. Another report is the report of shadow figures or a man dressed in frontier attire pacing the grounds while the sound of marching boots echo on the stone paths. 

Though no one lives on the property any longer this homestead is far from empty. 

Several antique items are on display inside the fort visitors center. Although not all relics are connected to the fort directly they have been acquired from nearby 18th and 19th century homes. Many people think that these items may be connected to some of the haunting that occur here at Pricketts Fort. 

The cemetery of Pricketts Fort is another location where visitors feel the presence of spirits. An unmarked grave said the be the grave of a child who died during one of the many freezing frontier winters has been known to give a particularly uneasy feeling. EVPS have been known to give the sounds of moaning and or singing and one in particular told the person to “go home.”

The Highland Witch

 Deep in the hills of Marion County WV there is a small church and cemetery known as the Highland Church. Finding this place is difficult to say the least but once you find it you can see why all the tales of it's existence are spooky. This place sits way back in the woods out a dirt road and on top of a mountain. Inside the cemetery is the grave of a witch. The Highland Witch. Visiting The Grave of a Witch

 Rhoda Ward was a Bridgeport WV native and a member of the Simpson Creek Baptist Church. Rhodas mom was in a feud with another family from the church and Rhoda seemed to have taken the blame for this feud. Rhoda was accused of witchcraft and was tried in 1787 by the very church in which she belonged. At the time Rhoda was suffering from chickenpox as well as a fever. This could've led to the accusations of witchcraft or being possessed by an evil spirit due extreme behavior. Rhoda was ultimately found innocent and was allowed to continue attending church. 12 years later she was again accused of being a witch. Some legends say she was found guilty and hung while others claim she was once again found innocent. We do know that her body was buried outside a cemetery in an unmarked grave because witches couldn't be buried in hallowed ground. Maybe that tells more of the story?

Rhodas grave kept sinking more and more. The soil placed in the grave disappeared into a sinking abyss. Eventually the workers had to fill her grave with cement to keep it from sinking. It was like Rhoda didn't want to be buried at all. 

Other than the sinking grave, an unmarked grave outside of hallowed ground we do have more of the legend to go on. In 1970 a tornado touched down in Bridgeport and destroyed a lot of the city even damaging the church that tried Rhoda for witchcraft but stopped just short of her grave. Another event that has taken place is the cemetery office clock hands spin around and around stopping on the exact time that it is.
